A common question that arises, especially if you lack experience with both options, is: How do you choose between a gaming chair and an office chair?
Let me tell you my story. For one year, I used the UVI FOCUS for office work. This chair was my faithful companion during long hours at the desk, while my colleagues in the office enjoyed the gaming chair UVI XL Sport. Oh, how I envied them! Their chairs looked so comfortable with all the possible cushions and accessories. When I compared it to the more comfortable UVI XL Sport, the Focus seemed somewhat less adjustable and stiff. You had to sit in a specific position, unless you dared to put your feet on the desk for some stretching.
Then came the turning point – I got a gaming chair. It was so comfortable to sit on; the foam and softness you sit on just embrace you, and you fall into comfort, so you could play computer games or watch series for hours. Instantly, I felt what true luxury in sitting means. Yet, after a few weeks of enjoying the softness of the gaming chair, I started missing the firm and less flexible backrest of the office chair that keeps you seating in a proper posture which is especially useful for focused and long-term work. I realized that if you add an additional UVI memory foam cushion to the seat, the office chair can become even more comfortable.
This experience taught me that each chair has its advantages. The gaming chair is extremely comfortable for long hours of playing or relaxing in front of the screen, while the office chair is more suitable for long-term work as it encourages proper posture and helps prevent back and shoulder pain. Although gaming chairs might seem like dream thrones for anyone spending a lot of time in front of the computer, office chairs prove to be better companions in maintaining a healthy posture without pain during long working days.
Material: Artificial leather on gaming chairs looks really shiny, but in a hot and sunny office, it can become uncomfortable as your bare skin can stick to the chair, especially if you are wearing shorts. In such cases, fabric is much more practical as it is more breathable and does not retain heat. However, it has one downside compared to artificial leather: dirt is more visible and harder to clean. While leather can be easily wiped with a damp cloth, fabric requires a bit more effort and special cleaning procedures to maintain its appearance and freshness.
Aesthetics: Gaming chairs are often more eye-catching with their combinations of black and fluorescent colors, perfectly matching the RGB gaming environment with all the lights on gaming peripherals. Office chairs, on the other hand, have a more classic and neutral design that easily blends into a business environment. They are elegant and simple, making them suitable for various work environments where appearance is as important as functionality and better harmonize with simple furniture.
Adjustability: Gaming chairs often offer more adjustment options, including adjustable lumbar support, headrests, and armrests, as well as the ability to recline. This allows gamers to customize the chair to their preferences and needs. Office chairs are more focused on ergonomics, with features that promote proper posture and reduce body strain during work. This includes adjustable height, seat depth, and backrest angle, which is sufficient for comfortable work.
Chair Size: The size of the chair is also an important factor when choosing a chair. If you are of smaller stature, the large UVI XL Sport chairs can be a bit too big and may not fit you properly, which can make you feel uncomfortable. The backrest, armrests, and seat height may not be in the correct position, which can affect your posture and comfort. However, they are a great fit for those who are taller. Office chairs usually offer more size options, allowing better adaptation to different body types and greater comfort and support. If you are of smaller stature, you can choose from many other variants of gaming and office chairs. So it is important to choose a chair that matches your height.
The choice between a gaming chair and an office chair depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you value top-notch comfort, bold design, and adjustability, a gaming chair is an excellent choice. But if your priority is long-term work with an emphasis on ergonomics and proper posture, an office chair will be a better choice. In the end, it is important to choose a chair that will allow you comfortable and productive work or play, regardless of your choice.
